Tonight’s game against FC Dallas was not packed at all with a total attendance of 15,161. It proved to be a very tough game for Sporting KC. They faced superstar goalie Kevin Hartman who had 85 saves last year. Sporting KC also has a superstar goaltender in Jimmy Nielsen who had two saves in the last game against the New England Revolution. At the 19th minute Kevin Hartman had a spectacular save that kept the game tied at 0-0 and under control for Sporting KC. Ricardo Villar scored the first goal on a penalty kick in the 25th minute. In the 32nd minute Aurelien Collin received a yellow card for a reckless hit. Then three minutes after the first yellow card was issued to Collin, a yellow card was issued to Chance Myers for reckless hit as well. At the end of the half Aurelien Collin scored a beautiful no look header goal that was assisted by Graham Zusi, which made him the leader in the MLS with three, to tie and made the game score 1-1. In an action-packed first half, Sporting KC had 10 fouls while FC Dallas recorded 6 fouls.
To start the second half FC Dallas substituted Bobby Warshaw and Ricardo Villar. Then in the 49th minute Kei Kamara received a penalty kick but Kevin Hartman blocked the shot. The most interesting thing about the blocked kick was that the last missed penalty kick was July 27, 2007. In the 70th minute FC substituted Andrew Wiedman for Bryan Layva. In the 87th minute Kei Kamara scored the go-ahead goal, which extended the lead to one. The score in the 88th minute was 2-1. Then in the 90th minute Sporting KC substituted Lawrence Olum for Bobby Convey and FC Dallas substituted Bobby Warshaw for Ricardo Villa who was injured and will not return next game. Then in the 92nd minute Jacob Peterson was substituted for Bobby Convey. In the 93rd minute Roger Espinoza received a yellow card for a reckless hit.
The final score was 2-1 giving Sporting KC another win. Sporting KC improved their record to 3-0 with this win. Coach Hyndman said, “Sporting is one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference and I love the way they play.” When Coach Vermes came in to speak he said the team was off and that they did not have any tempo during the first half but eventually got the tempo back. When asked “If Sporting KC would come back 5-0?” Chance Myers responded by saying the team they are playing on this road trip will be a tough match up and that he hopes to connect and destroy against Chivas USA and Real Salt Lake. He also said that he is happy at his position as defender and hopes to help his team return to the playoffs. Finally when asked what he thinks of the first road trip this year, he replied, “We are going strong into this road trip and going to focus on this upcoming game.”
