The Missouri Mavericks played the Quad City Mallards, Friday night in Quad City. The Mavericks already were on a three game winning streak and they were striving for a fourth. The Mavs found the win they wanted, 5-3 over the Mallards, to extend their winning streak to four games.
The first period was neither boring nor lackadaisical. It was an excellent period for the Mavericks as they scored three times. The first goal of the game came, in the 6th minute, when Blake Forsyth, Mavericks, fired a blazing slap shot past Mallards goalie, John Murray. The goal could not have happened without a marvelous pass from John Scott-Dickson and Brian Bicek. The second goal came exactly 10 minutes later; in the 16th minute; on an Andrew Courtney wrist-shot that slid just under John Murray. Ryan Jardine assisted the goal. The third and final goal came, in the 17th minute, when Kenton Miller shot and scored. John Murray was pulled after this goal and backup Jimmy Spratt was put in. Dave Pzenyczny assisted the goal. The first period ended in a 3-0 lead for the Missouri Mavericks.
The second period was a meltdown for the Mavericks as they allowed two goals to the Mallards while scoring none. The first goal was scored, in the 10th minute, by Shayne Toporowski and was assisted by Matt Boyd and Jason Dixon. The second goal for the Mallards came in the 18th minute and was scored by Mike Hellyer. Anthony Perdicaro and Derek Matheson received assists for the goal. The second period ended 3-2, still in favor of the Mavericks.
The third period was a mixed combination as goals were scored between both the Mavericks and the Mallards. The Mallards scored first tying up the game in the 1st minute. The goal was scored by Mike Hellyer and was assisted by Mickey Lang and Mitch McColm. The Mavericks struck again, in the 13th minute, when Andrew Courtney delivered an amazing shot that easily went by Jimmy Sprat. Sebastian Thinel and Ryan Jardine assisted the goal. The checkmate move came, with 4 seconds left, as Sebastian Thinel shot from center ice into an empty Mallards net, the shot went in and clinched the win for the Missouri Mavericks 5-3.
The three stars of the game were: 3rd Star – Ryan Jardine (MIZ), 2nd Star – Mike Hellyer, (QDC) and 1st Star -Blake Forsyth, 9MIZ) The Mavericks return home Saturday night to take on the Mallards once again. This game in front of a home crowd at the Independence Events Center.
