Mathieu Corbiel Called Up to Chicago

It was announced late Sunday night that Mathieu Corbiel was called up to the Chicago Wolves. This is just the second call up that has happened for the Mavericks in the last week with the first being Kenton Miller. Photo Credit goes to Jeremiah Griffith

With the NHL season just around the corner, the Missouri Mavericks, Mathieu Corbiel was called up to the Chicago Wolves, late Sunday night. The announcement came from Corbiel himself, on Twitter. With a twitter statement that simply said, “Very happy to have gotten the call up by Chicago!”

Corbiel will join Kenton Miller on the Wolves and will be backing up goalies Eddie Lack and Matt Climie. Corbiel has not played much for the Mavericks this year only starting nine times this season, so this call up is somewhat surprising. Corbiel’s 2012 stats included 3 wins and a 908 save percentage. Mavericks GM, Brent Thiessen thoughts on Corbiel were,

“We are happy for him to have an opportunity at the next level.”

Corbiel will be missed by many Mavericks fans and it will be interesting to see how the Mavericks replace him. Some speculate Gerry Festa could return to back up Mike Clemente. Others say the Mavericks will bring in a whole new goalie, possibly from Arizona. The site will be updated as more information is
released.
