(INDEPENDENCE, MO): The Mavericks shined on home-ice in their final performance of the 2012-2013 regular season. The performance was spotless, the final home game could not have ended in a better result with a 5-1 win. Had the Mavericks were to score six goals everyone in the arena would have gotten a free burger, so maybe the game could have ended better. Still, the Mavericks played very solidly throughout the game and finally had a great defense after some games that didn’t have the best defense. Mike Clemente was unstoppable in the net allowing one goal on 25 shots, a 96% save percentage.

“It was probably the best team effort defensively that we had,” said Mavericks goalie, Mike Clemente. “We kept them on the perimeter and limited their chances. We did not panic at any point in the game last night and didn’t give Tulsa any easy chances.”

The Mavericks only managed to score one goal in the first period. That goal came 17:47 into the period on a Colt King goal with the assist going to Kyle Hood and Brandon Smith.

Having the lead going into the second period, the Mavericks were ready to dock on more goals. This is exactly what they did, scoring three goals during the second period. The first goal was scored just 6:58 into the period when Kenton Miller scored his 28th goal of the season. The goal was assisted by Sebastian Thinel and Josh Hepditch. The Mavericks netted their third goal on a Andrew Courtney wrist-shot that just got passed, Oilers goalie, Dan Clarke. This goal was assisted by Ryan Jardine. The Mavericks third and final goal of the period was scored at the 17:30 mark when Brandon Smith scored after a great feed from Andrew Courtney. When the period ended, the Mavericks were still leading 4-0.

In the third period, the Mavericks notched one more goal but failed to get a shutout and allowed a goal. The Mavericks goal came just 1:45 into play when Andrew Courtney sent a blazing slap shot past Dan Clarke for the fifth goal of the game. This goal was assisted by Sebastian Thinel and Ryan Jardine. The Mavericks were looking for a possible shutout but in the 8th minute, Ryan Burlock scored. The goal was assisted by Gio Flammino and Gordon Bell.

“One more goals for burgers. We were trying. The boys tried hard to get fans those burgers,”said Mavericks coach, Scott Hillman.”It was a good performance, I thought Clemente played well and everyone played well. We got stronger as the game went on. We have to go a game at a time and we know if we can pick up four more points, we get that fourth place spot.”
