After a 4-1 win Friday, the Missouri Mavericks traveled to Illinois, Saturday evening, to take on the Bloomington Blaze. The Mavs won 6-1 extinguishing the Blaze’s four game winning streak.
The first period began with a bang right from of the puck. In the 4th minute, the Mavs’, Sebastian Thinell scored the first goal after a great pass by John-Scott Dickson. The second goal for the Mavs came in the 9th minute when Evan Vossen delivered a blistering slap-shot that, Bloomington goalie, Gerry Fosta had no chance of stopping. The third and final goal came in the 16th minute when Brian Bicek passed the puck to Andrew Courtney who shot and scored. The Mavs ended the first period with a 3-0 lead.
The second period was just as good and maybe better than the first. The first goal for the Mavs came in the 5th minute when, rookie, Josh “Podge” Turnbull scored after an excellent pass from Andrew Courtney giving the Mavs a solid 4-0 lead. Less than a minute later John-Scott Dickson scored after a solid pass from Evan Vossen, extending the lead for the Mavs to 5-0. The final goal of the second period came with about 30 seconds to go when a Jamie VanderVeeken wrist-shot slipped past Gerry Fosta for the goal. The second period ended and the Mavs had extended their lead to 6-0.
The third period brought no goals for the Mavs but the Blaze scored once, in the 5th minute, after Nicholas Rioux passed the puck Tyler Gron. Gron shot and scored but it was not enough to carry the Blaze to any more goals. The game came to a close with the Mavs extinguishing the Blaze with a 6-1 win.
