Sporting KC vs US Open Cup

The Lamar Hunt US Open Cup is the oldest Championship in the United States and Sporting KC has played the game well.

Over international break, Sporting KC competed in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. The Lamar Hunt US Open Cup is the oldest championship in soccer where all leagues in the United States participate.

Sporting KC started in the third round playing Orlando F.C. The first goal came at the end of the first half on a wonderful shot by Paulo Nagamura. The first half score was 1-0. Kevin Molino scored in the 55th minute after a pass from Erik Ustucks making the score 1-1. Soony Saad scored the second and third in the 65th and the 69th minute making the game 3-1. Orlando F.C’s Dennis Chen scored the last goal of the game in the 84th minute but couldn’t score a third goal to tie the game. Sporting KC faced off against the Colorado Rapids in the fourth round of the US Open Cup. Sporting KC scored in the 27th minute when Matt Pickens, of the Colorado Rapids, scored on his own goal. That was the only goal scored in the first half of the match-up. Sporting KC scored their second goal in the 79th minute when Teal Bunbury received a crossing pass from CJ Sapong. That goal was the final of the game and the match ended with a 2-0 win for Sporting KC.

Sporting KC will host the Dayton Flyers in the semi-finals round of the US Open Cup.

When Sporting KC hosts the Flyers, they will have Kei Kamara and Roger Espinoza back from international break and the game should be an easy win for Sporting as Dayton is one of the two non-MLS teams in the US Open Cup.
