(Kansas City, MO): Exciting and Eventful, those are two words that described Sporting KC season opener 3-1 win against the Philadelphia Union. The 3-1 win was the third consecutive seasoning-opening win for Sporting. The game was definitely exciting but there is still a lot of things Sporting needs to work including continuing to work on the team chemistry.
“It’s their home opener, you can expect they are going to come out and try to drive the game and put us under a lot of pressure, and to be fair they did a good job of that, especially early on in the game,” Said Peter Vermes, “Once we found ourselves a little bit I thought that we started to posses the ball a little better, our building out of the back was good, and then in the second half I thought what was really good is that we were breaking their lines quite often and that was just a couple of adjustments at halftime.”
The first half was very sloppy for Sporting, allowing one goal but still scoring one. The one Union goal came at the 17 minute mark after Sebastian Le Toux received a great set-up by Keon Daniels, Le Toux kicked the ball just out of the reach of Jimmy Nielsen for a goal. At the 41 Online Pokies minute play online pokies mark in the first half, Graham Zusi tied it up for Sporting when he rebounded a Benny Felihaber shot and went top shelf for the goal. After a minute of extra time, the half ended in a one-one tie.
The second half was clearly better than the first, Sporting KC created more opportunities and scored twice. The first goal of the second half came 66 minutes in, Oriol [Uri] Rosell received a great feed from Graham Zusi and headed the ball into the goal. With a 2-1 lead already, Sporting knew they could extend the lead some more and did so in 82 minute of play. Claudio Bieler found some open room and poked the ball into the left corner of the goal. Assisting the goal was Chance Myers. After ten more minutes of play, the game ended in a 3-1 win for Sporting and an overall great performance from the team but especially the mid-field.
“It was really tough at the beginning but we knew that we could come around and win this game. It was hard to control the ball when I was between the both defenders but with the pressure they gave us they opened spaces and we created good chances,” Said Claudio Bieler when he was asked his thoughts on the game, “We are coming from a very hard preseason and this is our first official game and we have players with a very high level and I think we can play better. Personally I am still adapting but I feel very comfortable and physically I feel wonderful.”
