After a win in Montreal and Philadelphia, Sporting KC was sent to Columbus where they played the Columbus Crew for the first time this season. Sporting won 2-0 with goals coming in the 6th and 82nd minute. Sporting’s first goal was scored by Jacob Peterson, his 3rd goal this season, making the score 1-0. Shortly after the goal, the first yellow card was given, in the 7th minute, when Bernardo Anor, Columbus Crew, recklessly tackled Kei Kamara. The first half ended with a 1-0 Sporting KC lead.
The second goal came in the 82nd minute when Teal Bunbury received an open look pass for Kei Kamara and scored. The game ended with a 2-0 win for Sporting, who have improved their record to 11-5-3. “Overall it was a good performance from us with a good result. We came here in the middle of a ten-day road swing.” said Jacob Peterson, “We got the three points which is what we set out to do. We scored two great goals and Jimmy [Nielsen] made some good saves back there and it kept them out of the back of the net.”
Sporting KC will now face the Houston Dynamo and then come home to play the New England Revolution, Montpelier, and the Columbus Crew. Sporting KC game against Montpelier is their first of two international friendlies with their second coming August 1st against Stroke City.
