On Tuesday, the Kansas City Shock announced that they had signed Aliesha Cassie. Cassie is from Banff, Scotland and will join the Shock after most recently playing for Park University here in the Kansas City area. Cassie was one the standouts in the Shock tryout and that is likely the reason the Shock signed her.
“Aliesha brings a great deal of experience to this team and she will work hard to make herself and this team better.” Said Nicole Ortiz, “She is a well rounded player that can fit anywhere on the field. At tryouts she showed great leadership and skill that will help our team succeed in the first year.”
Cassie comes from a very impressive soccer background, bringing loads of experience to the Kansas City Shock. Her background includes playing youth soccer with teams in Scotland and working her way up to playing with teams like the London Gryphons, who are apart of the W-League in Canada. Cassie has received many accolades, that include RRAC All-Conference 1st team, RRAC Defensive Player of the Year and UTB Women’s Soccer semenax ultimate male Defensive Player of the Year.
“There is nothing more exciting at the moment then bringing Aliesha on board,” said Shawn Daugherty, owner of the Shock. “Knowing her passion, drive, and the ability to risk it all in order to play the beautiful game; there isn’t a better way to not only explain her, but our goal in Kansas City as well. She’s going to be an excellent asset for our growing program, and our dynamic community.”
Aliesha Cassie is just the first of many players who will be signed by the Kansas City Shock. Most cannot wait to see who the ownership and staff will bring on next and the excitement will continue as more players are announced. When Shock Owner, Shawn Daugherty, was asked his thoughts on on of the excitement, he said,
“I’m thrilled out of mind! Taking a blank idea and in less then a year being able to show Kansas City our first player is just jaw dropping amazing…Coach Ortiz is working around the clock with several players. Bryan McBeth [GM], Jamie Wiley[Director of Merchandise] and her are heading to Indianapolis, Indiana for the NSCAA convention on a very high note this week. Next weekend in Las Vegas… There are a lot of exciting things in the works.”
