After two straight wins against the Fort Worth Brahams and the Bloomington Blaze last week, the Missouri Mavericks were ready to get a third straight win against the Quad City Mallards. The Mavs never did find that third win, as the Quad City Mallards goalkeeper, Jimmy Sprat, stopped all 26 shots the Mavs took. The Mavericks goalkeeper, Mathieu Corbeil, only stopped 15 of the 17 shots the Mallards took allowing the two goals needed for the Mallards to win.
The first time the Mallards scored was in the first period. In the 6th minute, after a high pass from Patrick Levesque, Obi Aduba shot and scored, making the score 1-0. After many puck changes between both teams, the Mavs could not find a way to score and the first period ended with the Mallards owning the lead 1-0.
Being down 1-0 going into the second period the Mavs had to play tough but this did not happen as there were no goals in the second period. At the end of the second period the Mavs were still losing 1-0.
Going into the third period, the Mavs were still trying to attack and get the puck in the Mallards’ net but the opposite effect was put on the Mavs as they lacked in defensive toughness and in the 18th minute, the Mallards’ Matt Duffy slipped into the Mavs zone and scored. The goal clinched the win for the Mallards. The Mavs will face the Mallards once again Saturday n ight. The Mavericks are looking for revenge and a win.
